Spire of Hope, St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast

St Anne’s was built over 100 years ago, situated in what has become Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. In association with Box Architect, Taylor & Boyd won an Architectural design competition to add a contemporary spire to the original building.

Structural surveys and wind analysis modelling of the proposed spire and the existing steelwork led to detailed designs for connection to the roof’s steelwork.

The spire was fabricated in stainless steel by Tuchschmid Constructa AG in Switzerland and shipped to Belfast for installation.

The spire soars to about 39m above the roof with 14m descending into the church. It is supported by four fine fins. At night the spire is illuminated by a lighting arrangement on the cathedral’s roof. It is a beacon for the cathedral and a monument within the cathedral quarter for the whole of Belfast.
