Ballymartin Park & Ride
Taylor & Boyd acted as Project Manager to deliver a Park & Ride facility outside Templepatrick, Co Antrim.
The Client’s aspiration was to create a facility for passengers to access both bus and rail services into the centre of Belfast. A green-field site was acquired which bordered a railway line, the M2 motorway, and the A57 between Templepatrick and Larne.
Taylor & Boyd managed a team of consultants to develop the design. Many stakeholders were consulted and extensive survey works were undertaken including topographical, geotechnical, ecology, archaeology and drainage. An environmental impact assessment and a transport assessment were prepared. Ground conditions on the site were improved with lime stabilisation.
Before project funding was approved, the Client decided to omit the railway element of the project. The design, however, had to be able to accommodate future elements, including a station and an extension, should demand require it.
The design provides 428 car parking spaces and a bus shelter. A new roundabout was constructed at the junction of the A57 and the M2 motorway slip roads. Attenuation ponds were provided to control the storm water discharge. Landscaped bunds provided visual separation between the development and surrounding lands.
The project was delivered below budget and ahead of programme. (Image courtesy of Colin Williams; Whitemountain Quarries Ltd)View More Projects
